1001 Inventions Arabic Book Special Print Run in Celebration of the Jordan Year of Science 2017
On the occasion of the launch of the 1001 Inventions Arabic Science Exhibition in Amman in November 2017, a special limited print run of the Arabic version of the popular book ‘1001 Inventions: Journey to the Golden Age of Muslim Civilisation’ with foreword by HRH Princess Sumaya bint Al-Hassan was organised by the Royal Scientific Society as part of a year-long celebration of science in Jordan: The Jordan Year of Science 2017. Two 1001 Inventions exhibitions; Ibn Al-Haytham: The Man Who Discovered How We see, and 1001 Inventions Arabic Science were part of this celebration.
The book also carries a foreword by Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan.

At the time the West was going through what is generally termed the Dark Ages, the Arab and Muslim World enjoyed an age of advancement science, inventions and innovations in many fields. The contributions made by men and women scientists from different backgrounds and religions who lived during the Golden Age of Muslim civilisation laid down the foundations of the scientific revolution in Europe.
1001 Inventions brings to life the creative and scientific heritage of Muslim civilisation. It showcases the achievements of the Golden Age of Muslim civilisation over a thousand years from the 7th century onward, therefore giving a panoramic image of a period that is often ignored, proving without a doubt that the Arab and Muslim civilisation is a true contributor in what humanity achieved today in science and technology.
1001 Inventions tells the story of the Golden Age of Muslim civilisation and the great achievements it gave humanity. This entices pride in our youth in their heritage and makes them appreciate that we are not merely importers of civilisation, science and innovation, but exporters of it and ones that have laid its foundations. This will no doubt inspire and motivate young people to study science and technology based on the belief that science and technology are able to provide a better future for the coming generation. 1001 Inventions will encourage them to invest their creative and innovative ideas to present positive Arab and Muslim role models to restore some of that past creativity and innovation.
Hosting the 1001 Inventions Exhibition at the Jordan Museum in Amman combines the story of Arab and Muslim civilisation that the exhibition tells, and that of the rich cultural heritage of our beloved Jordan that that the Museum tells.

في الوقت الذي كان فيه الغرب يرسخ في غياهب الجهل فيما يُعرف بالعصور الوسطى كان العالم العربي الإسلامي يعيش عصر علمٍ ونورٍ واختراعات وإبداعات في مجالات العلوم المختلفة. وتُعدّ تلك الإسهامات التي حققها علماء وعالمات من ثقافات مختلفة وأديان مختلفة تفاعلوا مع العصر الذهبي للحضارة العربية الإسلامية، الأساس للثورة العلمية والتطور الذي حدث في الغرب اليوم.
إن ألف اختراع واختراع والمواد التعليمية المرافقة له يُعيد إلى الحياة التراث العلمي والإبداعي للعرب والمسلمين، فهو يسلّط الضوء على إنجازات العصر الذهبي للحضارة العربية الإسلامية على مدى ألف عام تقريباً ابتداءً من القرن السابع الميلادي، فيعطي صورة بانورامية عن عصر تجاهلته العصور التي تلته، صورة تُثبت بما لا يدع مجالاً للشك أن الحضارة العربية الإسلامية شريك أصيلٌ فيما وصلت إليه الحضارة الإنسانية اليوم من تقدمٍ علميٍ وتكنولوجي.
ألف اختراع واختراع يروي قصة الحضارة العربية الإسلامية والإنجازات العظيمة التي قدمتها للبشرية، مما يُعزّزُ الشّعور بالثقة لدى شبابنا وشاباتنا بتاريخهم المجيد وحضارتهم العظيمة، ويُدركوا أننا لم نكن مجرد مستوردين للحضارة والعلوم والابتكارات، بل كنا مُصدّرين لها، بل أكثر من ذلك أننا أساس هذه الحضارة التي ينعم بها العالم اليوم. ولا شك أن هذا سيشكّلُ حافزاً لهم للاهتمام بالعلم والتكنولوجيا، انطلاقاً من الإيمان بأن العلم والتكنولوجيا ولا شيء سواهما هما القادران على تأمين مستقبل أفضل لهم وللأجيال القادمة، ويشجّعهم لاستثمار إبداعاتهم وأفكارهم الريادية لتقديم نماذج إسلامية عربية إيجابية يُحتذى بها لاستعادة بعضاً من تلك الإبداعات والإنجازات.
إن إقامة معرض ألف اختراع واختراع في متحف الأردن يمزج ما يرويه المعرض من قصة الحضارة العربية الإسلامية والإنجازات العظيمة التي قدمتها للبشرية مع ما يرويه المتحف من قصّة أردننا العزيز الزاخر بإرثٍ حضاريٍ وثقافيٍ متميزٍ على مرّ العصور.
