Mission and Purpose

1001 Inventions is a British-based not-for-profit science and cultural heritage organisation co-founded in 2006 by award-winning British producer and social entrepreneur Ahmed Salim.

Recognising the importance of science for sustainable development, 1001 Inventions creates exciting educational initiatives to help spark young peoples’ interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

Acknowledging the importance of addressing the world’s most pressing challenges, 1001 Inventions campaigns aspires to build a generation of global citizens equipped with the necessary knowledge to make responsible choices and equipped with skills to help them find solutions that will impact their lives, their communities and the world in which they live.

Believing in the importance of diversity, 1001 Inventions leverages on the power of storytelling, interlinking themes of science, history and culture, to disrupt the notion of STEM being exclusive. 1001 Inventions productions uncover fascinating historical contributions of lesser-known pioneers from Arab, Asian and other Eastern cultures. This helps young people understand that each one of them has an equal opportunity to become the scientist of the future. Such inclusive content helps promote harmony, respect and tolerance.

To fulfil this mission 1001 Inventions aims to: 

SPARK YOUNG PEOPLE’S INTEREST IN SCIENCE: offer experiential learning to help children discover the wondrous world of science and its relevance to their daily lives. Motivate young people to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) studies and careers.

IMPROVE APPRECIATION OF SHARED HUMAN HERITAGE: develop an understanding and appreciation for people of all cultures and backgrounds by demonstrating humankind’s shared heritage. Highlighting the living legacy of contributions made by previous generations and the breadth of interactions between cultures.

PROMOTE INNOVATION: present positive human stories that incite inquisitiveness, curiosity and inspire creativity and innovation in all aspects of modern life.

IMPROVE SOCIAL COHESION AND MUTUAL RESPECT: engage, positively impact and inspire under-represented and host communities to encourage inclusion, social cohesion and intercultural appreciation.

INSPIRE YOUTH: draw positive lessons from the past to encourage the best of human values to strive towards building a better future for all.

PROMOTE SOCIAL ACTION: align content and productions to address global challenges and concerns prompting positive social action.

DEVELOP YOUTH SKILLS AND TALENTS: equip young people with the skills, creativity, innovative thinking and aptitude they need to become engaged contributing citizens in the 21st century helping create a sustainable world for all.
