“1001 Inventions: Journeys from Alchemy to Chemistry” is a global public engagement with science initiative produced by 1001 Inventions in partnership with UNESCO to spark young people’s interest in science and raise awareness about chemistry and its applications while promoting diversity and intercultural appreciation. It brings to life stories from the history of science by remarkable pioneers from different backgrounds and cultures with a focus on the work of the pioneering polymath Jabir ibn Hayyan, also known as Geber, in the 8th century.
The global educational initiative was launched at UNESCO HQ in Paris in January 2019 in celebration of the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019). The initiative then rolled out on a global tour including events at the China Science Festival, All-Russian Science Festival, the Berlin Science Week, the Royal Society of Chemistry in London and the Maker Faire in Cairo.
