Royal launch for 1001 Inventions at Al-Zamil Science Oasis

Unaizah, October 2021: Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bib AbdulAziz Al Saud, the Governor of Al-Qassim Region, dignitaries and senior representatives of the Gassim region business community and the Saudi Ministry of Education launched today a uniquely designed science exhibition from 1001 Inventions as an anchor attraction at the Gassim Science Centre.

The 1001 Inventions exhibition is a permanent installation within Al-Zamil Science Oasis, part of the first of its kind science centre in Saudi Arabia – Al-Gassim Science Centre. The Centre is a community-driven project initiated by the people of Gassim region in collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Education, supported by generous contributions of Al-Zamil Holding Group and a number of governmental and private institutions. The initiative aimed at enhancing science educational experiences for students through play, hands-on engagement and experimentation.

The installation boasts 10 interactive zones covering science-focussed topics including mathematics, mechanics, chemistry, physics, medicine, astronomy and the natural environment. The zones feature over 20 historic personalities from the history of Arab and Muslim civilisation who excelled in their respective scientific fields. The exhibition designates a section to highlight the history of finance and commerce in honour of  Alinma bank for their contribution towards the Muslim Civilisation Wing at the Centre.

Dr Ahmed Al-Shibil, General Manager, Scientific Centres Project, Tatweer said:

This exhibition is an essential and captivating component at Al-Zamil Science Oasis, part of the Gassim Science Centre, established as the first model science centre in the Kingdom to invest in our youth as a pillar to Saudi Vision 2030 . We seek to engage our people and ignite our national imagination. Through science we can build a more sustainable future. In this Science Centre we celebrate the innovation of humanity past and present, and look at common values and lessons learned to help our future generations on their journey to build the future”. 

Carefully designed as a fun and enlightening experience, the installation offers visitors of all ages a highly interactive and educational engagement with the past. It includes captivating short films, interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, workshops and digital games. At each step throughout the narrative of the exhibition, visitors are prompted to ponder about the key shared values achieved through the work of past scientists – values that young people can still aspire to  today.

The carefully curated exhibition from 1001 Inventions aims to create awareness amongst youth about the rich legacy of creativity and innovation in Arab and Muslim civilisation to inspire them to build a better future. It is a celebration of a thousand-year period from the 7th century when pioneering scientists built and improved upon ideas of earlier worldwide scholars and made advances that helped pave the way for the European Renaissance.

About Gassim Science Centre 

The Gassim Science Centre is a community partnership project initiated by the people of the Gassim region in partnership with the Saudi Ministry of Education. It received generous contributions from Al-Zamil Holding Group and a number of governmental and private institutions. The Centre operates through two main arms: Al-Zamil Science Oasis and Al-Shubeili Science Academy. It aims to link formal and non-formal education through learning within STEM methodology to support the educational process and inspires young people. The Centre boasts specialised science-based content that has been curated to international standards in science learning.

It also aims to create educational environments for all members of society to spread awareness of science and technology and create a science-loving culture aiming to change perceptions and excite young people about embracing science learning.
