“1001 Inventions and The World Of Ibn Al-Haytham” Film Released

Omar Sharif’s Final Film Now Available On iTunes

London, 10 July 2017: 1001 Inventions announced today the online release of the “1001 Inventions and the World of Ibn Al-Haytham” short film. The film starring Omar Sharif is a tribute to the memory of the legendary actor who died this day in 2015.

Omar Sharif takes the lead role in the partly-animated film that brings to life the fascinating story of Ibn al-Haytham. Considered by many as the ‘Father of Optics’, Ibn al-Haytham made important contributions to the understanding of vision, optics and light. In the film, the brave young scientist from 11th century Arabia embarks upon a quest to uncover ancient mysteries that would change our world forever.

The “1001 Inventions and the World of Ibn Al-Haytham” film directed by Ahmed Salim stars Macey Chipping, voice over by Khalid Abdalla and features music composed and performed exclusively by Sami Yusuf. The film animation is created by UAE film makers Blink Studios.

The film is part of a global educational campaign launched by 1001 Inventions in partnership with UNESCO in 2015 that has engaged more than 30 million people around the world. 1001 Inventions led tribute events for Ibn al-Haytham at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, United Nations and the New York Academy of Sciences in New York, the China Science Festival in Beijing, the Royal Society in London, the Jordan Museum in Amman and in more than ten other cities around the world.

Ibn Al-Haytham film staring Omar Sharif ready for Dubai World Premier

Dubai – November 10, 2015: The legacy of renowned Egyptian actor Omar Sharif will be celebrated at the 12th edition of the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) this December through the world premiere screening of his last film, ‘1001 Inventions and the World of Ibn Al-Haytham’. Sharif, whose passing in July saddened the world of film and beyond, came out of retirement to support the short film from award-winning director and producer Ahmed Salim, which will be screened twice at this year’s DIFF. It forms the final part of the 15-strong line-up of films in the Muhr Gulf Shorts category at the Festival.

Actor Omar Sharif’s final film “1001 Inventions and the World of Ibn Al-Haytham” has been dedicated to his legacy. 

Legendary Oscar-nominated actor Omar Sharif, who died on Friday 10 July 2015 in a Cairo hospital following a heart attack, still has one more film to be released later this year. British organisation 1001 Inventions is producing a short film that will be the last film for the late actor. Sharif’s leading role in the educational short film “1001 Inventions and the World of Ibn Al-Haytham” was his final performance.
