Award-winning British producer and social entrepreneur Ahmed Salim brings you “1001 Inventions and the World of Ibn Al-Haytham” a global educational initiative launched by 1001 Inventions in partnership with UNESCO in 2015 in celebration of the United Nations proclaimed International Year of Light.
The educational initiative celebrates the legacy of Ibn al-Haytham, the 11th-Century pioneer from Arabia. Born around a thousand years ago in present day Iraq, Al-Hasan Ibn al-Haytham (known in the West by the Latinised form of his first name “Alhazen”) was a pioneering scientific thinker who made important contributions to the understanding of vision, optics and light.
The global initiative engaged audiences around the world with events at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, United Nations and Academy of Science in New York, the China Science Festival in Beijing, the Royal Society in London, the Jordan Museum in Amman, the Berlin Science Week and in many other cities around the world.
“1001 Inventions and the World of Ibn Al-Haytham” initiative delivers an exciting mix of highly engaging and interactive experiences including film, staged experiments, interactive exhibits, hands-on workshops, music, book and educational materials.
