Activities engaging thousands during the Egyptian Science Week and Maker Faire Cairo

Egypt, 10 March 2018: In partnership with the Egyptian Science Week and Maker Faire Cairo, 1001 Inventions unique educational experiences were featured across 8 cities in celebration of Egypt’s Science Month 2018.

1001 Inventions activities in Cairo, Alexandria, Ismailia, Mansoura, Damietta, Zagazig, Minya and Aswan included exciting hands-on demonstrations combining science with fun in a unique way. The engaging activities included an insects’ show and an exploration of fossils demonstration aimed to highlight the magnificent world of animals and the importance of keeping balance in nature.

Guided by 1001 Inventions local team of science explainers, these engaging and interactive activities targeted a wide range of audiences with a focus on school students and youth.

Beside these activities, 1001 Inventions short films about Al-Jahiz and Ibn al-Haytham were screened for thousands of youth and children, in diverse Egyptian cities, followed by talks and discussions.

“1001 Inventions and the Book of Animals” features the story of the 9th century explorer Al-Jahiz, the author of the encyclopaedic work about animals ‘Kitab al-Haywan’ (Book of Animals), and raises the awareness about nature and animal conservation.

“1001 Inventions and the World of Ibn Al-Haytham”, starring the late legendary actor Omar Sharif, highlights the story of 11th century scholar Ibn al-Haytham and his great contributions to the understanding of vision, optics and light.

This year’s participation in Egypt’s Science Month builds on the success of previous 1001 Inventions exhibitions and events across Egypt including at the Library of Alexandria, Maker Faire Cairo, the Egyptian Science Week and the Cairo International Book Fair.

The films and educational activities are part of global campaigns launched by 1001 Inventions to spark young people’s interest in science and raise awareness about pioneers from the Golden Age of Muslim Civilisation.

About the Egyptian Science Week

The Egyptian Science Week (ESW) is an annual event that celebrates science and technology. The celebration gathers vast scientific events, which are spread all over Egypt and held through buzzing scientific shows, inspiring public lectures, engaging scientific competitions and various exciting activities.

ESW is organized in collaboration with governmental organizations, universities, schools, research centres, and NGOs in order to disseminate scientific and technology awareness and simplify science.
